The Region around Mouy

Chateau de Chantilly
Mouy is situated in the centre of the Oise, the southernmost department of the Picardie region. Picardie is known as the 'Land of the Cathedrals' with famous gothic cathedrals to be found in Beauvais and Amiens to name but two.

The region encompasses the sandy beaches of the Somme (1 hr 30 from Mouy) in the north to the vast forests and pastures of the Thiérache in the east and down to the chateaux of Chantilly (25 minutes from Mouy) and Pierrefonds (40 minutes from Mouy) near the Paris Area and the vineyards of the border with Champagne (Champagne picarde - 1 hr from Mouy) to the south.    more ...

Arras & Thiepval

2016 sees the 100th anniversary of the battle of the Somme, fought in Northern France for 6 months in 1916. Arras in one of only two towns on the
front line (along with Verdun) and is just a short 90 minute drive from La Source Tranquille. The centre of the town itself is largely intact with fabulous buildings dating from the 17th century. All around the town is evidence of the battle itself; with beautifully kept cemeteries littering the landscape and monuments marking all of the main sites. Thiepval is the largest of these, built as a memorial to the British and French dead. It is at once stunning, brutal and humbling, and well worth a visit.    more ...
