Eurotunnel now conducting exit checks

The UK government have introduced Exit Checks at all ports and airports from 1st April 2015. This requires all operators to gather information on the identity of every person leaving the country, at their point of departure, and pass this information to UK Border Force.

This means that anyone visiting us through the Eurotunnel will need to complete a form with information on everyone travelling in the car before reaching the tunnel (the form is here). The ferries seem to be different in that they are just checking and recording passports as you leave the country. Might be worth leaving some extra time before checking in!

Train line reopens

Following extensive work on the train tracks the line between Beauvais and Creil has reopened, meaning it is once again possible to walk from La Source Tranquille to the train station and connect to Paris, all in just over an hour. The new timetables have also been released and show that fast connections allow perfectly for a day trip into the city. Please note the last connecting train leaves Paris quite early so if you wish to go in and include the evening in the city we'd recommend driving to Chantilly, parking and taking the train from there.

Here are a sample of the weekday train times - please note these are just a guide and you should check the daily times using the timetables here before setting out.

Pets Welcome

Dominoe & Gracie
With a large fully enclosed garden and pets of our own we are very happy to welcome well behaved small pets to La Source Tranquille. There are some lovely walks in the village itself and longer ones for the fitter up into the hills and through the surrounding fields. France is a very pet friendly country and you'll find that you can take your dogs into many bars and restaurants. Dogs are even allowed on trains; the rules state that larger dogs should be muzzled but I've yet to see that rule enforced!

As of the end of 2016 we no longer make any charge for welcoming pets; we do have a couple of rules though:

  • We ask that animals are not allowed on the furniture without your own covering or to go upstairs as we have wooden floors that scratch easily
  • We ask that dogs are kept on a lead and accompanied in the garden (unless you're confident that they won't leave your side)
  • We ask that you clean up after your animal in the garden
  • We do ask that if your animal gets upset at being left alone that you don't leave them alone!

Potager des Princes

Potager des Princes, Chantilly
Have a nice time en famille family in a historical park and garden transformed by Y. A. Bienaimé.

Through extensive work, this park classified "Jardin remarquable" found its soul. As in the 17th and 18th centuries, you will discover waterfalls and fountains, a flower garden, an exotic garden, orchards, topiaries ...

In 2013, Yves and Annabel Bienaimé created a real zoo:
Along the promenade, discover rabbits, sheep, chickens, goats, ponies, donkies and pygmy horses. Children can join in with various activities involving the animals.

Large or small, walkers, gardening enthusiasts, painting or theater lovers, you will be seduced by the Potager des Princes !

Horseracing in Chantilly

Chantilly Racecourse
Situated just 20 minutes from La Source Tranquille stands one of the most famous horse racing venues in France. The architect responsible for the renovations of the Chateau de Chantilly, Honore Daumet, was responsible too for the grandstand in Chantilly Racecourse, built in 1879. Although Chantilly racing predates this by some 40 years, the grandstand heralded the great age of horse racing in the region and was built against what is described as the most beautiful stables in the world.

The Great Stables were built in 1719 as stabling for the chateau estate and measure 186 metres long. Part of the stable buildings now house the Living Museum of the Horse, comprising 31 rooms filled with art depicting all things equine.

Chantilly racing is Flat racing, contested by the finest thoroughbred horses in the world. The course is right-handed with interlocking tracks, giving three courses in total covering distances from 1400 metres to 2400 metres. The course is home to two of the four French Classics; the Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de Diane.

The Prix du Jockey Club was inspired by the Epsom Derby and is often termed the French Derby in recognition of its origins. The race is run over 2,100 metres, which is around a mile and 2 furlongs and is staged in June each year to great acclaim. Several winners have gone on to win at other notable races such as the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe and the Irish Derby.

It is rare to have such an incredibly beautiful setting for horseracing matched in quality by the standard of the races themselves and the key to that quality is down to the district of Chantilly too, which is France’s largest horse training area.

Garden getting ready for Spring!

New deck for 2013
It's been a harsh winter in the Oise; low temperatures and two three good periods of heavy snow. However, April is here and, in between the snow, we've managed to complete the deck for the garden. No more muddy feet when dining outside! It just needs some dressing now and a new covering; the last one didn't survive a particularly windy January night!    more ...
