All About Mouy
Mouy is a small commune of around 5000 inhabitants in the department of the Oise (60) situated on the River Thérain. It is very well connected with departmental roads to Beauvais (20 minutes) and Creil (15 minutes) connecting on to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) in 45 minutes and Paris itself in an hour. It has a railway station on the Beauvais - Creil line with regular trains throughout the day. The train connects with the Creil - Paris train which can take you from Mouy to Paris Nord in just 45 minutes.
Life in Mouy revolves around the river which runs through the centre of the town. The town's wealth derived from factories which sprung up at the turn of the 19th century, producing leather for shoes and clothing. In turn new industries grew which needed water like plastics and electronics, and the town's prosperity peaked in the 70's. Since then the factories have closed as production has moved abroad, leaving a much quieter town with many properties ripe for redevelopment.
Mouy has a thriving town centre just a couple of minutes walk from the gîte. Currently we have two pharmacies, a doctors and a vets, a small supermarket, a tabac, 5(!) bakeries and a couple of small restaurants. 5 minutes drive away is a larger supermarket and DIY store and a couple of low cost supermarkets.
The nearest big town is Creil, but Beauvais is just a few minutes further and is the main administrative town of the Oise. Just south of Creil is the shopping zone of Saint Maximin.
